Summer Internships

The Hennick Centre for Business and Law is committed to promoting business and legal education and creating opportunities to enhance students’ educational experience in business and law.  Through various business law-related summer internships administered by the Centre, students are provided with exposure to the client side of legal practice and experience in a for-profit or non-profit organization.

The summer internships are open to York University’s JD and JD/MBA students who will have completed the first year of the JD program in advance of the start of the internship.  Applicants must have strong academic credentials and a demonstrated interest in business and law, as evidenced by enrollment in the JD/MBA program, law school coursework, prior post-secondary course of study, work/volunteer experience, etc.

The program details are as follows:

  • Students will be placed in a for-profit or non-profit organization for 12-14 weeks from May to August (5 days per week).
  • Students will receive a stipend of $10,000 for their participation in the internship program.
  • Students will work under the active supervision or mentorship of staff while assisting with business or commercial law-related assignments and tasks.

 


Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) Corporate Internship

CAMH is Canada’s largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital, as well as one of the world’s leading research centres in this field.  The CAMH Corporate Internship will expose students to the hospital’s dynamic and innovative corporate culture, while providing a unique opportunity to develop practical business and legal skills from an in-house counsel perspective.

Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) Business Law Internship

The Hennick Centre is proud to announce a new partnership with the Ontario Securities Commission to launch the OSC Business Law Internship starting in the Summer of 2016, submissions are now being accepted!

OSC administers and enforces securities law in the province of Ontario.  Its mandate is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper and fraudulent practices, and to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in capital markets.  This mandate is performed through policy, operational, adjudication and enforcement work.  OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

OSC offers an attractive, modern, high-performing workplace and a fair and flexible work environment. They take pride in their work, which is both challenging and rewarding. The downtown Toronto-based offices house a large professional staff including over 90 CAs and over 130 lawyers.
