Summer 2018 - Hennick BizLaw Internship at IIROC!
By: Rishi Nageshar
JD’2019 and Summer 2018 Recipient of the McCarthy Tétrault Business Law Internship Award
My summer at the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) provided me with in-depth practical experience in the capital markets and financial services industry. The internship involved rotating between three important branches of IIROC: the General Counsel’s Office, Enforcement, and Registration. Each rotation involved legal research that was highly supported through dedicated colleagues and supervisors. The General Counsel’s Office allowed me to explore and understand the complexities of being a self-regulatory organization that is recognized by the provincial securities regulator. Enforcement Counsel greatly involved me in the day-to-day aspects of litigation in the administrative realm. The Registration branch introduced me to IIROC’s role as a gate keeper to the capital markets.
I am thankful for my summer experience and would highly recommend the IIROC internship to anyone interested in capital markets, litigation, or administrative law. The opportunity to work alongside experienced and dedicated professionals should not be passed up!
