Hennick Fellow (2017/18) - Call for Applications - Research Associate

The Hennick Centre for Business and Law is accepting applications for the following Hennick Fellowship Position for the 2017/18 Academic Year:

Position Title: Research Associate, Climate Change / Environmental Law
Duration of the Position: October 2017 – May 2018

The Research Associate will be working under the direction of Prof. Cynthia Williams, Co-Director of the Hennick Centre for Business and Law, and reporting to her and to the Centre Assistant Director as necessary.

The person in this position will help to develop a data base of litigation and potential litigation challenging directors in Canada for failing to incorporate climate change risk into their strategic planning and public disclosure, as well as to explore some of the approaches being developed by institutional investors and reporting companies in various industries to incorporate climate change risks into company and investment strategies. The Fellow will also help prepare materials for a day-long conference on the topic to be held October 20, 2017, as well as writing follow-up reports and media releases.

Specific topics of factual research supporting the meeting may include, but are not limited to:

– Climate change risk management at operating companies
– Corporate engagement by institutional investors on climate change risk
– Climate change challenges facing Canadian company directors

Legal research will include evaluating causes of action that are possible where directors and officers are failing to incorporate these risks.

Joining the Centre as a Hennick Fellow is a fantastic way to get involved in our activities and initiatives and connect with leaders in business and law, from which many more opportunities flourish. The Hennick Fellow will be paid an honorarium of $500 at the end of their term.

NOTE: Fellowship positions are open to students in their second year or higher, who have never before held the position of a Hennick Fellow in previous years.
